FAQ's

Clinical Hematology is a medical specialty that focuses on the study, diagnosis, and treatment of blood-related disorders and conditions, including blood cell disorders, bleeding disorders, and blood cancers.

Blood is composed of red blood cells (erythrocytes), white blood cells (leukocytes), platelets (thrombocytes), and plasma. Each component has specific functions in the body.

Common blood disorders include anemia (low red blood cell count), hemophilia (a bleeding disorder), thrombocytopenia (low platelet count), leukemia (cancer of blood-forming tissues), and lymphoma (cancer of the lymphatic system).

A Complete Blood Count is a common blood test that provides information about the numbers and types of blood cells in the body. It includes measurements of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.

Hemoglobin is measured through blood tests and reflects the amount of oxygen-carrying protein in the blood. It’s essential for oxygen transport to body tissues. Low hemoglobin levels indicate anemia.

A bone marrow aspiration and biopsy involve the removal of a small sample of bone marrow for examination. It’s used to diagnose blood disorders, determine the cause of abnormal blood cell counts, and evaluate cancer.

Treatment varies depending on the specific blood disorder. It can include medications, blood transfusions, bone marrow transplants, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and targeted therapies for blood cancers.

Blood clotting disorders, also known as coagulopathies, involve abnormalities in the blood clotting process. Conditions like hemophilia and von Willebrand disease are examples of clotting disorders that can lead to abnormal bleeding.
